How It Works
This is a procedure where excess tissue is removed from the labia minora, the smaller “inner lips” of the vulva which sit between the labia majora, giving it a smaller and smoother appearance. Although there is quite a variation among what is considered “normal” for this part of the body, some women wish to change the look of their labia minora for personal reasons.
This tissue can hang down below the labia majora if the tissue has been stretched after childbirth or if it was naturally long. It can cause irritation of the skin in the area in some cases. Once the excess tissues have been removed, the incision is closed with dissolving sutures.

What is recovery like after a labiaplasty?
You will return home after surgery. If prior to surgery you took any antianxiety or calming medications such as Ativan you will require a drive home from a family member or friend. You will experience swelling in the area which will begin immediately after surgery, you will be prescribed pain medication to manage discomfort. You may perform daily activities such as cooking, showering, and light walks during the first week after surgery. After one to two weeks, pain and swelling will subside.
Depending on how physically demanding your job is you may return to work after one to two weeks. You will need to wait approximately four to six weeks before resuming intense physical activity or sexual intimacy.
