Hyaluronic acid fillers are a common medical cosmetic treatment that gives uplifting results without surgery. As we age, we often see a loss of volume in the face, as fat pads in the face begin to fade and fall. Dermal fillers are an effective solution for restoring facial volume and structure. They can also be used to volumize and define facial features, such as enhancing the cheeks and lips, contouring the jaw, and reshaping the chin. The final result is a natural and revitalized appearance with minimal to no downtime.
What are Hyaluronic acid fillers and how are they used in the face?
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the human body. It gives our skin firmness and volume, giving it a youthful appearance. As we age, we produce less hyaluronic acid resulting in less volume and the facial fat pads begin to fade. With the help of hyaluronic acid fillers, volume can be added back to the face in areas it may be lacking. It can also be used to lift and provide support to the face.
Where can Hyaluronic acid fillers be placed?
Fillers can be placed in areas of the face that are lacking volume, or under lines and wrinkles that have formed as a result of the aging process. The mid and lower face are the most common areas to receive filler treatments, they can be used to correct:
- Smile lines (from the nose to the corner of the mouth)
- Accordion lines (forming at each side of the mouth)
- Marionette lines (running from the corners of the mouth downward)
- Smokers’ lines (vertical lines around the mouth)
- Volume loss in the cheeks, or to enhance the cheekbones
- Volume loss in the lips, or to volumize/enhance the lips
- Undereye lines and hollows
- Neck lines
- Chin enhancement
- Jawline/ profile enhancement
Results typically last 12-24 months depending on the product being used. Treatments to the lips typically last 6-8 months as this is an area where there is more mobility. Treatments can be repeated as desired.
These treatments are not solely for women. Men experience the same facial changes with aging as woman and treatment results can be just as rewarding.

What to expect during your treatment?
You will first meet with one of our practical nurse injectors, they will examine your face and discuss your goals and expectations with facial fillers. Possible side effects will be discussed as well as your budget for the treatment, we encourage you to ask any questions you may have.
Before the treatment begins photos will be taken, this is the best way to show your final results. A topical numbing cream may be applied depending on the area being treated to increase your comfort. The area will be marked, depending on the area being treated one or more syringes may be administered during a single treatment.
For any first time clients, or if a new area is being injected, a two week follow up appointment is made. This is when any possible corrections are made or additional filler may be added.

How long does an injection treatment take?
Treatment times are dependent on the number of injections being preformed during a single treatment. Your injector will discuss treatment times with you once a plan has been created to achieve your aesthetic goals.
Typically filler treatments take 30 minutes to 1 hour.

How long is recovery after a filler treatment?
You will experience mild swelling or redness after your injections, most people can return to work after their injections. There is always the possibility of a bruise any time a needle is introduced into the skin but your injector will take every step to avoid this as well as give you instructions for how to care for the area after your treatment.
