Laser Hair Removal

BOOK TREATMENT

How It Works

We have hair all over our body, most of  which is fine, pale, and barely visible. But when darker coarser hair is present in some areas, such as on the face, neck, underarms, breasts, legs, or bikini for women, or on the shoulders, chest, or back for men, it may be time to consider laser hair removal.

Its time to ditch the razor, its time to say goodbye to razor burn and red bumps, and never feel the discomfort of prickly regrowth ever again. Laser hair removal is a non-invasive way to drastically reduce and often eliminate unwanted hair, leaving you smooth and confident

At Allura, we use Cynosure’s Vectus Diode laser for effective permanent hair removal. The laser emits even pulses of energy that passes through the skin and into the root of the hair follicle, thus destroying it.

The Vectus laser uses the Skintel Melanin Reader, the only FDA approved melanin reader for light-based treatment. This scans the skin prior to treatment to determine the exact level of melanin in the skin which allows for more accurate and safe treatments.

FAQ's

  • What areas can be treated?

Hair removal can be performed on any area of the body where the hair contains pigment. The darker the color, the more effective the treatment will be. The laser will not work on blond or red hair, or ‘peach fuzz’.

    Commonly treated areas are:

    • Upper lip
    • Chin and neck
    • Under arms
    • Arms
    • Back
    • Chest (male or female)
    • Abdomen
    • Bikini
    • Legs and feet
  • How Many Treatments Will I Need?

We offer our hair removal treatments in packages of 6 sessions. Individual sessions can be purchased as well.

  • How much do treatments cost?

Treatment cost varies based on area being treated. Packages of 6 treatments are available for each body area. A consultation is needed for pricing.

  • Is laser hair removal painful?

Laser hair removal is generally considered to be minimally painful. Most patients describe the sensation as akin to a rubber band snapping against the skin. However, the level of discomfort can vary depending on the treated area and an individual’s pain tolerance.

Fortunately, advancements in laser technology have led to the development of systems that offer more comfort during treatment. Some devices now incorporate cooling mechanisms to help numb the skin during the procedure, further reducing discomfort.

  • Can laser hair removal be done on tanned or darker skin?

Yes, laser hair removal can now be safely and effectively performed on individuals with tanned or darker skin tones. In the past, the procedure was less suitable for such individuals due to the risk of skin damage or discoloration.

However, advancements in technology, such as the development of lasers with longer wavelengths, have made it possible to target the hair follicles effectively while minimizing the risk to the surrounding skin.

To ensure the best treatment plan, it is essential to consult with a qualified laser hair removal specialist who can assess your skin type and customize the procedure accordingly.

  • How long does each session take?

The duration of a laser hair removal session depends on the size of the treated area. Smaller areas like the upper lip or underarms can typically be completed in just a few minutes, while larger areas such as the back or legs may require up to an hour.

Your treatment provider will provide you with a more accurate estimate based on the specific areas you wish to treat.

  • What should I do before a laser hair removal session?

Before your laser hair removal session, there are some important preparations to keep in mind. First and foremost, avoid sun exposure for a few weeks before your appointment, as tanned skin can increase the risk of complications.

Additionally, avoid waxing and plucking in the weeks leading up to treatment, as these methods remove the hair root, which the laser needs to target. Shaving, on the other hand, is recommended 24-48 hours before your session, as it leaves the hair shaft intact while removing surface hair, allowing the laser to focus on the follicles more effectively.

  • Are there any side effects of laser hair removal?

Most people experience only mild and temporary side effects following laser hair removal. These can include redness, swelling, and a sensation of minor discomfort similar to a sunburn. These side effects typically subside within a few hours to a few days.

It’s crucial to follow post-treatment care instructions provided by your provider to minimize the risk of complications and ensure a smooth recovery.

  • How long do the results last?

While the results of laser hair removal can vary from person to person, most individuals experience a significant reduction in hair growth that can last for an extended period. The hair that does grow back is often finer and lighter in colour.

However, it’s essential to understand that various factors, including hormones, genetics, and age influence hair growth. As a result, periodic maintenance treatments may be necessary to maintain the desired results over the long term.

  • Can I shave between sessions?

Yes, shaving between laser hair removal sessions is not only allowed but recommended. Shaving does not remove the hair root, which is essential for the laser to target during subsequent sessions.

In fact, shaving between treatments helps ensure that the laser energy is directed toward the hair follicles, making the procedure more effective.

  • What is the difference between laser hair removal and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)?

Laser hair removal and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) hair removal are both popular methods for achieving hair reduction, but they work differently. Laser hair removal uses a single, specific wavelength of light to target and destroy hair follicles precisely.

In contrast, IPL uses a broad light spectrum, making it less precise and effective. Laser hair removal is generally considered the gold standard for permanent hair reduction because of its precision and ability to target darker hair effectively.

  • Is laser hair removal effective on all hair colours?

Laser hair removal is most effective on dark hair. The laser targets the melanin (pigment) in the hair, and darker hair contains more melanin, making it an ideal target. Conversely, blond, red, gray, or white hair has less melanin and is less responsive to laser treatment.

However, advancements in laser technology have led to the development of lasers that can treat lighter hair colours to some extent, although results may not be as dramatic as with dark hair.

  • Can laser hair removal cause skin cancer?

There is no evidence to suggest that laser hair removal causes skin cancer. Laser hair removal procedures are designed to target hair follicles and do not penetrate deep enough into the skin to affect the cells in a way that could lead to cancer. These procedures are conducted by trained professionals in controlled settings, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients.
