IPL Photofacial Treatment
Say Goodbye to Redness and Sunspots—Restore Your Skin’s Clarity
IPL corrects sunspots, redness, pigmentation, and mild acne by using light pulses to even skin tone and reduce visible discolouration.
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses broad-spectrum light to target and break down unwanted pigment and redness in the skin. The light energy is absorbed by melanin and hemoglobin, which then breaks down and gets cleared through the body’s natural processes. This treatment is not a laser—it uses pulses of light to treat sunspots, redness from rosacea, broken capillaries, mild-acne, and post-acne pigmentation.
Because the IPL device targets pigment, it’s especially effective for conditions that show up as uneven skin tone. You may notice your skin looks clearer, brighter, and more even within a few sessions.
IPL is a good option if you have concerns like redness, rosacea, sunspots, or blotchy skin tone. Many of our clients at Allura choose IPL to correct pigmentation from years of sun exposure or to calm the appearance of flushed skin. If you have fair to medium skin (Fitzpatrick types I–III), you’re more likely to benefit from the treatment.
If your skin is darker or you’re prone to hyperpigmentation, we may recommend a different approach. We also encourage skincare as a first step, especially if the redness is triggered by active breakouts or product irritation. You’ll have a chance to discuss your skin history and goals during your consultation so we can guide you toward the safest option.
It’s important to avoid sun exposure for four weeks before and after your treatment. This allows the skin to respond predictably and heal without complications like new pigmentation. That’s why most IPL treatments at Allura are booked from October to June—when the weather makes it easier to stay out of direct sunlight.
Even brief exposure, like a two-hour drive on a sunny day, can count as sun exposure. Wearing SPF 30+ daily is required before and after IPL. We recommend mineral-based sunscreens, especially on freshly treated skin.
You’ll usually need a series of 3 to 4 treatments spaced about 2 to 3 weeks apart. At Allura, we tailor your plan based on the skin condition being treated and how your skin responds after each session. If you’re treating active acne, sessions might be scheduled more frequently—up to weekly in some cases.
Unlike CO2 resurfacing, IPL isn’t about dramatic single-session results. Improvements happen gradually. Yearly maintenance may be needed, especially if your skin is regularly exposed to sunlight.
There is no formal downtime, but you might feel warm or flushed for a few hours. Pigmentation in the treated areas may darken temporarily and take on a “coffee grind” look as it comes to the surface. This will slough off naturally in about a week—don’t pick or scratch it, as that can cause scarring.
Most clients return to daily activities immediately. We advise skipping makeup for 24 hours and avoiding hot showers, saunas, or exfoliating products for several days to keep the skin calm.
Daily sunscreen use is non-negotiable after IPL. Your skin becomes more sensitive after treatment, and any unprotected sun exposure can reverse the benefits or cause new damage. Use gentle cleansers and moisturizers and avoid active ingredients like retinol or acids for several days.
At Allura, we’ll recommend products to support healing and help extend your results. Good hydration, both through your skincare and by drinking enough water, can help your skin recover more efficiently.
Price ranges from $130-$3,000 depending on number of treatments and areas treated – it typically lasts 6 to 9 months. If you already use medical-grade products, you may not need to purchase anything new.
