Breast Augmentation Surgery
Breast augmentation surgery is one of the most common procedures offered by Plastic Surgeons in today’s society. Have you ever considered an augmentation? This blog is designed to give you a brief summary of the types of implants offered along with how the surgery is carried out.
Types of Implants:
Implants that are filled with saline (salt water) during surgery.
Silicone Gel-filled implants
Implants that are pre-filled with silicone gel.
It is important to keep in mind that all implants have an outer silicone shell. Dr. Husain uses a 6th generation implant that is made with a sturdier outer shell but the most interesting thing is that the inside of the implant is now made with a new “cohesive” gel that does not leak.
What does this mean? Basically, the internal gel of the implant has a “gummy bear” texture so that even if you cut into it, there is no seepage.
Textured or Smooth
Did you know there are two different surfaces available?
A textured surface helps keep the implant more stable.
A smooth surface doesn’t adhere to the tissues surrounding it.
During your consultation, Dr. Husain will be able to guide you into making an informed decision regarding textured vs. smooth implants.
Shape of Implants
If your concern is droopiness in your breast and you feel that the top portion of your breast is where there is a bigger lack of volume, a round implant could be a better option for you.
There are two types of incisions used by Dr. Husain; along the areola (periareolar) or under the breast (inframammary). At the consultation, these types of incisions can be discussed with Dr. Husain and together you can choose which option is the best for you.
The implants can be placed in two different places:
Above the muscle
The implant is placed in a pocket made between the breast gland and the chest muscle.
Below the muscle
The implant is placed in a pocket made between the chest muscle and the ribs.
For different reasons, Dr. Husain will inform you which placement is the best option for you based on your anatomy and desired results.
Below, you will find a link to the Natrelle website. They offer detailed information on their implants and it is a great tool to help you get informed.
